The S1000D specification was developed to establish standards for the documentation of any civil or military vehicle or equipment. It is based on international standards such as SGML/XML and CGM for production and use of electronic documentation.
Previously known as Aecma 1000D, the new specification S1000D is now under development and maintenance of TPSMG (Technical Publications Specification Maintenance Group), the official group of European/ASD and US/AIA.
The goals were to establish a standard that can be used internationally by a wide variety of organizations, to reduce the need for independent development of such standards by the various organizations, and to enhance interoperability - thus reducing duplication with its inherent costs.
